Paleo Cacao Brownie Recipe
I shared the pictures of this mouthwatering dark chocolate brownie on my Instagram stories and got around 40+ messages asking for the recipe. The next day, I shared a picture of lamb kidneys but got only 2 messages with “WTF is that?”. And I was like “LOL”.
Anyway, I know you will definitely enjoy this recipe and will surely become your absolute favourite.
Healthy Brownie recipe
If you do not want to accept mediocre ingredients such as sunflower oil and excess sugar, then there is hope. You can make these incredible paleo-friendly and low-sugar cacao brownies.
Using 100% pure cacao powder is the trick to making these rich, dense, and easy healthy brownies. The recipe is simple to follow and was actually made by my good friend Amanda of Raw Fitness and Nutrition . I can only take the credit for being the photographer and also the taste tester, basically eating the majority of them. No regrets.
Low Carb Brownies
Proving the sweetness in these low-carb brownies are honey and coconut sugar. The coconut sugar provides a more crystalline caramelised effect on the exterior which you do not get from honey alone. This recipe is not sugar-free but it is definitely a better option than store-bought and other so-called “healthy”, “guilt-free” desserts.
Adding it with collagen and using the purest, high-quality cacao powder, this is one hell of a more grown-up and sophisticated version of healthy cacao brownies . Opting for quality instead of worrying about the calories with calorie-free syrups and sugar-free sweeteners. We can acknowledge that yes these are tasty, rich, and do not acquire a free pass from the 1st laws of thermodynamics.
Personally speaking, I am not scared or worried about calories. I honestly prefer to eat the real food and eat less of it, utilising self-regulation to not over-consume.
Healthy Cacao Brownie Ingredients
Alongside the coconut flour and sugar, there is baking powder which allows the finished brownies to be fluffy and not fall apart when cutting up.
There is an optional extra with unflavoured collagen powder. This actually does not affect anything apart from possibly helping with a better postprandial glucose response by slightly bumping up the protein content of the brownies. I use Pure Health supplements or Hunter Gatherer collagen powders (both UK-based). You can find the discount codes for both of these companies at the bottom.
Finally, the addition of a high-quality chocolate bar, a minimum of 85% provides more texture with the chunks but a gooey finish oozing out of it when you bite in. Definitely a must for the overall experience.
We should also not forget to compliment the darkness and sweetness of these wonderful brownies with a touch of sea salt that enhances every bite.
Collagen supplement discounts
Here are two of my favourite collagen powders which I use from time to time. They are UK-based but they do ship internationally. Don’t be shy, don’t delay and get online. How to Make paleo cacao brownies
12 servings
30 minutes to cook start to finish
Cacao Brownie Ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/2 cup cacao powder
3/4 cup coconut sugar
1 tsp baking powder
4 eggs
1 cup melted butter (allow to cool)
1/2 cup honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
70 grams Dark chocolate (broken into small 1/2 cm pieces)
Cacao Brownie Method:
Preheat your oven to 350F.
In a bowl, combine the coconut flour, cacao powder, coconut sugar, baking powder, and collagen.
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and then mix in the honey, butter, and vanilla extract.
Slowly mix in the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well combined.
Next, in a greaseproof lined baking dish 8x8 square, pour the batter and distribute it evenly.
Tip: Give the dish a light tap to remove any air bubbles.
Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until 90% cooked. Remove from the oven. If you are unsure if it’s nearly ready, check by inserting a thin knife to see if any batter comes out on the knife.
Next, add the small chocolate pieces to the dish. Put them on top and with some press down slightly.
Pop the dish back in the oven to finish off the magic for another 2-4 minutes.
Remove from the oven, allow to cool then portion them in 8 pieces or however you choose.
Serving suggestion:
Serve with cream, coconut milk yogurt or your favourite yogurt on top. Scatter a few fresh or frozen berries and sprinkle bee pollen.
