Water: How much Should You Drink Every Day? (Part 1)
The Ultimate Guide To The Health Benefits Of Water - Part 1
We will be taking a deep dive into the health benefits of water (pun intended). The quantum water wizard, Carrie Bennett, created this content to explain everything you ever wanted to know about water, which we’ve broken into 3 parts for you. The first part discusses, How much Should You Drink Every Day?
Water: How much Should You Drink Every Day?
Water might seem like a boring topic to study and read about. Surely, we know everything about water by now, right? As long as I am drinking my 8 glasses per day, I should be hydrated, correct?
I never expected to take such a deep dive into the water. However, what I have discovered and continue to learn about water amazes me every day.
Sure, water is the third most abundant molecule in nature. Humans are approximately 70% water by volume, and because water (H2O) is such a tiny molecule compared to the other proteins and macromolecules that make up the body, it turns out that 99 out of every 100 molecules in the body is water.
Water in the body has been cast aside during most of my collegiate and graduate school studies in biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Water is simply an inert solvent in which the “more important” parts of the cell swim around to accomplish every task essential to cellular function.
Or is it? Have we relegated water to a non-essential role and in doing so missed out on the amazing properties of water that allow for life itself?
Water - Liquid In A Glass
When most of us think about water, we picture liquid water in a glass. Maybe some of us also picture a lake or ocean. Maybe even raindrops or dew. If I were to ask you the chemical formula for water, you would undoubtedly say “H2O.”
Up until a few years ago, my only appreciation for water was to keep me hydrated. After all, through my 15 years as a personal trainer, massage therapist, and clinical nutritionist, I was always reminding my clients to “drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day” or “make sure you are peeing clear to light yellow” or “get those 8 glasses of water in every day!”
I’m sure you have also heard one or all of these recommendations, meant to remind us that being hydrated is very important for our health. After all, we are 70% water.
Over the years, several symptoms have been linked to mild or moderate dehydration including:
Headaches, mental fatigue, muscular fatigue/reduced muscular performance, dizziness, and low blood pressure, and when studying your annual blood work, you may even see signs of acute dehydration when you have a certain pattern of numbers such as elevated RBC, haemoglobin, haematocrit, sodium and potassium abnormalities.
Iranian physician, Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, who was taken into custody when the Iranian Revolution broke out in 1979 found that telling fellow prisoners to drink two large glasses of water alleviated suffering from all sorts of conditions such as pain, digestive distress, migraine headaches, asthma, hypertension, depression, and anxiety.
So impressed was he by this experience, we wrote two books exalting the benefits of water: “Water for Health, for Healing, for Life” and “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water.”
So how does the body cry out for water? Is thirst the perfect indicator? Turns out that our sensation for thirst wanes as we age. So as that may be a more reliable predictor in our youth, as we get older we need to be aware of other signs of dehydration including increased pain, fatigue/lethargy, dry skin, darker urine, headaches, and constipation.
Is simply drinking more water the only important part of alleviating dehydration?
I would argue, no.
I believe that way more goes into hydration than simply drinking enough water. But consuming water is certainly part of the equation so let’s dive into that first.
What Is The Best Water To Drink? and How Much Water Should You Drink?
When it comes to drinking water, the quality of water matters, as does the presence of minerals and movement of the fascial connective tissue web.
Let’s tackle each of these sections in a bit more detail.
First, while it certainly is essential to “stay hydrated,” I believe that the quality of the water may matter more than the quantity. These days, municipal tap water has been shown to be contaminated with several questionable substances including PFAS, glyphosate, fluoride, chlorine, chloramine, endocrine disruptors, and persistent organic pollutants. Yikes!?!
According to the US National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, we should be drinking between 2.5-3.5 litres of water per day. But is drinking more water always better?
In my opinion, if the water is full of potential toxins then drinking more tap water may lean towards being more harmful than helpful.
So what are we to do?
The body was meant to absorb water as it is found in its natural state. According to Viktor Schauberger, an Austrian naturalist who made it his life’s passion to observe water patterns in nature, water is meant to flow in nature and as it does, it forms natural vortexes as it passes over rocks and such as it moves along a stream or flows from a natural spring. The vortexing movement of the water in nature has been shown to not only keep the water at a cooler temperature (as movement/friction of water against rocks should ultimately heat the water up), it has also been shown that the vortexing motion imparts additional energy into the water - a vital essence if you will.
What is structured water and vortexing?
Geek out with me:
A vortex is a very common flow pattern found in nature at all scales from a spinning solar system to a tornado, to water down the drain, blood flow through the arteries, and even the spiral path taken by photons of light.
It has been speculated that the vortexing of water allows it to draw in energy and natural electromagnetic frequencies that are part of the quantum field. The quantum field is the seemingly “empty space” all around us but when viewed from a quantum perspective is actually teeming with all sorts of energetic fields.
Thus, as water vortexes itself, as it flows in nature, it can be viewed as picking up information and electrical charge from the quantum field.
Research in Gerald Pollack's lab has also demonstrated that vortexing water does, in fact, cool it but also enables it to continually mix with oxygen enabling the build-up of negative charge (EZ water - more details on EZ later) which can explain Viktor Schauberger's reference of vortexed water having more "vitality" as EZ water does contain more potential energy than bulk water.
So, we can debate whether or not this is scientifically accurate as much more research needs to be done to fully confirm this, but I would rather go back to chatting about the benefits of drinking water from nature versus the tap.
In an ideal world, we would all have access to a natural mineral spring or glacial melt run-off which we would bottle in glass and carry enough home weekly to consume as part of our hydration strategy.
This type of water is ideal since it has moved in a vortex as it travelled and along the way, picked up naturally occurring minerals from rocks, sand and other natural mineral-rich substances in its path.
We know that minerals are important in our body’s ability to absorb water in the GI tract. Minerals are also essential in our body’s ability to stay hydrated at the cellular level since certain minerals, especially potassium, help keep cells hydrated on the inside where the magic happens.
Unfortunately, these days, very few of us have access to a natural mineral spring.
“Well, Carrie, this is all well and good,” you say, “but I live in a city with tap water, so what the heck am I supposed to do then?”
Tap water has its own challenges. Most municipalities face issues with contamination of potentially toxic substances that I mentioned before. Even substances used to clean the water that is not directly toxic to the human body like chloramines have been found to transform into toxic substances when they interact with natural organic debris that ends up in the sewer system, like leaves. Organic debris interacting with chloramines transforms it into a potentially highly toxic substance called trihalomethane.
How To improve The Water You Drink
My best suggestion for tap water is to filter it with reverse osmosis and then remineralise it. A reverse osmosis system will eliminate toxins but it also takes with it the beneficial minerals that may still be present. Thus, the addition of minerals after you have filtered it gives the water back what is needed for proper absorption.
There are several options for remineralising water including Himalayan or Celtic sea salt, or Icelandic sea salt, Quinton minerals, fulvic/humic acid.
The key is to get something with a complete blend of trace minerals. I have found that Quinton minerals are my favourite as it is basically purified seawater which contains all the trace minerals in the ratio that has been perfected by nature for billions of years.
Additionally, consuming an omnivorous diet with seasonal plants and a nutrient-dense nose-to-tail-to-shell approach will yield the greatest advantage and opportunity of topping up any shortfalls.
We can also use a vortex to re-energise our water. Whilst it won’t resolve any medical or health issues directly - it will improve the state of the water molecules with vibrational energy.
Practical Takeaways For Clean Water At Home
Filter your water to remove the toxins: my favourite options use reverse osmosis or a multi-step filtration process. My favourite brands for this are:
AquaTru: The best countertop reverse osmosis system. Great system to have which removes slightly more than Berkey but takes out all minerals so you’ll need to add them back in (more so if you eat a nutrient-depleted diet).
Berkey: Great for countertop filtration. Make sure you get one with the fluoride filters added.
If you can’t get a whole house or under-the-sink filtration unit, then I highly recommend their pitcher. It’s by far the best pitcher filtration I have ever used. link
2. Improve and enhance your water to the next level.
Add minerals back to your water for better absorption:
My favourite brands have a complete blend of trace minerals as found in nature.
Is Fluoride In Water Safe To Drink?
Are There Health Benefits to Fluoride?
Geek out with me:
What's the deal with fluoride? Is it good, bad, or neither? When looking at cellular hydration, I am inclined to side with fluoride being bad. Not because it can calcify the pineal gland as some biohackers might say. Instead, my concern is this: Water has a surprisingly high dielectric constant. However, fluoride lowers the dielectric constant of water, meaning it lowers the electrical storage potential of the water. As you continue to read this water series, it will become clear that we want to be able to “charge” our water and anything that disrupts this charge should be considered detrimental to the health of the cell/organism.
Health Benefits Of Vortexing Your Water
There are other fancy things that can be done to water to improve its drinking quality and absorbability. Things like water vortexes have claimed that they add an energetic quality to the water.
I have several clients who swear by them. But because we are dealing with impacting water at the subatomic level, these devices are difficult to study and draw conclusions from. However, there is growing research from studying homeopathy that vigorously agitated water, much like a vortex creates, indicates quantum effects may be at play.
Homeopathy has been considered by many to be “woo woo” and “new-agey,” implying there is no scientific basis for claims of its benefits. For those who are unaware, homeopathy involves diluting a beneficial substance in water by successive titrations until the actual substance can no longer be detected in the water. That water is then considered to have undergone homeopathic preparation and is ready for therapeutic use.
As the substance gets diluted, the water is shaken vigorously at least 100 times. This is seen to help imbibe the water with the energetic frequencies of the substance. In the end, all that is left in the final titration is the energetic frequencies in the water and no actual substance.
Whether or not you believe in homeopathy, the fact is that it has been practised for over 200 years with millions of successful client accounts. And now, water research is starting to show that water may indeed be able to “store memory” and as such, confirm the pathway by which homeopathy works.
Geek out with me:
Nobel Laureate Luc Montagnier received his Nobel Prize for discovering HIV. However, I am much more fascinated by his current line of research… He has found that the unique energetic frequencies of bacteria, viruses and even DNA can be imprinted into water, to the extent that when the bacteria, viruses or DNA are no longer detectable in the water, their energetic frequencies still are. Much like we see in homeopathy. What takes Montagnier's work to the next level is the research done on the water imprinted with the DNA frequencies. The imprinted water was actually shown to be able to reassemble the exact sequence of DNA when the water was combined with the raw materials required for DNA synthesis.
In this sense, water can hold a memory in the form of electromagnetic frequencies.
Thus vortexing the water may provide additional benefit in the form of increased potential energy and stored information from the quantum field. But it is up to you to try it and see if you notice a difference for yourself.
